Mission statement

  • To detect and remove all cases of melanoma at the earliest possible stage in their evolution
  • To acheive a ratio of benign to malignant biopsied lesions which is as low as possible
  • To not remove unnecessarily high numbers of naevi
  • To manage, counsel, investigate and refer detected cases in accordance with best practice, as stated in the Clinical practice guidelines for the management of melanoma in Australia and New Zealand by the National Health and Medical Research Council
  • To encourage sun protection in all patients
  • To encourage periodic surveillance of those at high risk of developing melanoma
